We are a Pilgrim People. We journey towards a fuller expression of the teaching of Jesus for our day. We listen deeply and prayerfully to Tradition, but we know that at one time all Tradition was itself new. We embrace the calling to be co-creators of Christ's Church in each new day. We strive to do the little things within our power, and to do them greatly. We recognize that true transformation happens one person at a time and most often happens not as a singular moment but over time.
Our foundational values are freedom, responsibility, and covenant. The Good News of Jesus is that we are freed from the bondage of sin and alienation, and freed for participation in the building up of the Kingdom of God. This freedom carries with it responsibility to always live towards wisdom in our thoughts, words, and actions, and responsibility to live as freed beings.
Through our freedom and our responsibility, we express the nature of the Kingdom of God through all our relationships, as covenant. Covenant - simply, an agreement freely committed to by two parties - is one of the most ancient treasures from our Israelite faith ancestors. Through the act of covenant, God revealed the possibilities of unconditional love and trust, and nurtured those qualities in humankind. Jesus revealed the truly transforming power of the act of covenant throughout his life and ministry.
All our relationships must be covenants with each other and with all beings. When we commit to this, we discover that Christ is always participating in and through us in all our relationships, and we remember that each person and being we encounter is utterly sacred, in God’s image.
Covenant is a radical way of life, and makes for lively communities where all the People of God are welcome at our worship and Table.
